June Whitacre was raised in Yokohama, Japan. She came to American to start her university life.  During her sophomore year she took a pottery class as one of the electives. She was hooked, and the following semester she changed her major to Art. June went on to receive her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in pottery.

June Whitacre grew up in her grandmother’s house surrounded by items made by Japanese artisans.  Her salt was kept in a Bizen jar. Her family ate out of porcelain rice bowls.  That left a huge impact on her, and she learned to really appreciate living with handmade everyday items.

June enjoys making pottery and enjoy the reactions that she gets from my customers.  That is like living in the good feeling she  had in my grandmother’s house all over again.
