JOB DESCRIPTION
The Grant Writer is responsible for preparing and producing, in the draft and final form, grant proposals, and solicitations for funding. The Grant Writer researches and recommends funding opportunities; develops solicitations and proposals for general operating needs, programs, exhibits, and capital projects; prepares progress and final reports.

Primary Responsibilities

-Prepare grant proposals in draft and final form that make compelling the need for financial support and address identified organizational funding priorities.
-Works with staff in identifying and gathering information on fundable projects.
-Maintain an organization-wide grants deadline calendar.
-Prepare interim and final projects to funding sources on a regular and scheduled basis working with finance and other departments to assure timely and accurate reporting.
-Research and recommend funding opportunities from a broad range of sources, linking their compatibility with organizational needs.
-Provide research for grant proposals and reports. This may include data collection and surveys of literature from a variety of sources.
-Make recommendations on strategies, policies, and procedures related to proposals.
-Maintain accurate database records or corporate and private foundations donor files.
-Communicate regularly with appropriate persons status of pending proposals.
-Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director.

-Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication and service skills and works effectively with people.
-Demonstrated excellence in problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to details and accuracy
-Demonstrated excellent organizational and project management skills with self-initiative to prioritize multiple projects in order to meet deadlines
-Remain current with standards, policies, and procedures

Education
-Bachelor’s degree required-communications, marketing, financial or liberal arts degree
-At least three years of professional grant writing experience, and or sales and marketing experience. Preferably with a membership-driven organization
-Successful track record of grant solicitations at local, state, federal and foundation level
-Able to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other staff members
-IT literate, competent with using word processing and databases, spreadsheets, project management software and web applications Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and donor database.
